Kaireios Library

The Kaireios Library in Andros is a non-profit organization that preserves and promotes the history, intellectual, and cultural life of the island.
It houses approximately 85,000 volumes, including rare editions, manuscripts, and archaeological collections.
The library is named after Theophilos Kairis, an important intellectual of the 1821 revolution, who founded a higher school in Andros. In addition to the library, it has a modern bookbinding and conservation workshop and organizes international conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events.
Andros Maritime Museum

The Andros Maritime Museum was founded in 1972 with a donation from the Nik. Goulandris family and is located in Andros Town, near the Square of the Unknown Sailor.
Its purpose is to collect and exhibit objects of maritime interest, presenting the rich maritime history of the island from 1750 to the present. Exhibits include charters, contracts, sailors’ logs, lithographs, photographs of Andros ships, traditional uniforms, and ship models.
The museum offers a deep understanding of maritime life and Andros’s commercial shipping.
Kydonieos Foundation

The Petros and Marika Kydonieos Foundation is located in Andros Town on Kairi Street. It hosts high-level modern art exhibitions.
Since 1995, the institution “Ploes” has been established, under which exhibitions of exceptional painters are organized every summer.
Works by Greek artists such as Tsoklis, Takis, Pavlos, and others have been exhibited. The Kydonieos Foundation has hosted works by painters Fasianos, Sperantza, and Stefano.

Palaeopolis Museum

The Palaeopolis Museum is housed in a building of the Palaeopolis community, kindly sponsored by the Vasilis and Eliza Goulandris Foundation.
The museum exhibits sculptures and statues from the classical to the Roman era, originating from excavations in today’s Palaeopolis. The most important exhibits are:
- A marble sculpture complex of the mythical winged horse Pegasus with his rider, Bellerophon
- A life-sized marble lion
- An inscribed marble plaque with 178 verses from a hymn in honor of the eastern goddess Isis

Syneti Folklore Museum

The traditional Folklore Museum is located in the village of Syneti in Andros.
The museum displays folk art objects as well as everyday items from the old Andros house.
Goulandris Museum of Modern Art

The Goulandris Museum of Modern Art is a wonderful museum, a gem of Andros. It is located in Andros Town, next to the Archaeological Museum.
It includes exhibits from the field of contemporary art, offered by the Goulandris family. The museum has two wings. The old wing has two permanent collections, where sculptures by famous Greek artists, such as Tombros, Takis, and Giannis Pappas, as well as works by Tsarouchis, Moralis, Vassiliou, and Fasianos, are exhibited over an area of 200 sq.m.
The new wing, every year from the last week of June until the end of September, hosts works by famous modern artists. Works by Picasso, Kandinsky, Giacometti, De Chirico, Rodin, Richier, Cesar, Degas, P. Klee, Monet, Van Gogh, Henry Moore, and Joan Miró have been hosted at the museum.
Archaeological Museum of Andros

The Archaeological Museum of Andros is a donation from the Goulandris family. It is located in Andros Town on Kairi Street, opposite the Museum of Modern Art.
Here are exhibited finds from excavations conducted by Greek and Australian archaeologists (1960-1977), dating back to the geometric period.
They come from ancient Palaeopolis, ancient Zagora, and other places on the island. The exhibits cover the history of the island up to the Byzantine years.
The museum’s open spaces have been suitably designed to host cultural events.
In the Archaeological Museum, you will see statues and ceramics, sculptures from the archaic era, such as the two kouroi, from the classical and Roman periods, the impressive Hermes of Andros, a Roman copy of the famous statue of Hermes by Praxiteles, and the headless female statue of the type of the large Herakleotissa, a copy of an older statue (3rd century BC).

Olive Museum

The Cyclades Olive Museum in Andros offers a unique opportunity to learn about olives and oil, highlighting the cultural connection with the olive tree.
It is housed in a building dating before 1823, restored and converted into a museum space.
The museum presents traditional olive oil production techniques, with an emphasis on animal-powered oil mills that ceased to operate in the late 1960s.
he exhibition is suitable for all ages and provides an informative tour on oil production. The museum is an excellent example of rural and pre-industrial technology and architectural heritage.
Museum of Folklore and Christian Art

The Museum of Folklore and Christian Art in Andros is housed in the old ice factory of Mantzavelakis at the entrance of Andros Town.
It exhibits objects from Andros life and replicas of Christian art. On the ground floor, a traditional Andros house is presented, as well as traditional professions and products of the island.
In the upper space, the old olive mill houses Christian art objects from the 18th and 19th centuries, divided into sections of iconography, ecclesiastical silver and goldsmithing, and wooden iconostases.
The museum organizes the Lemon Festival and the Wine, Cheese, and Baked Bread Festival.
Digital Museum of Andros

The Municipality of Andros, in an effort to showcase the island’s historical and cultural wealth, created the Digital Museum of Andros with the help of new digital technology. The project, funded by the NSRF, is housed in the renovated house of Theophilos Kairis. The museum presents the history of Andros through five historical periods and includes video projection systems, LCD screens, hologram displays, and an interactive table with educational applications. Particularly impressive is the 3D projection with cinematic specifications. The museum was inaugurated on July 19, 2014.
